Eminem, the Nielsen SoundScan Artist of the Decade for 2000-2009, is already kicking off the new decade with more of the same.  His latest album, Recovery (Aftermath Entertainment/Interscope Records),  makes its debut atop the charts this week with sales of 741,000 copies; easily outpacing any other release for this year, and setting a bar that no other album has reached for first week sales in almost two years.

EM-recovery.jpg

The album's first single, "I'm Not Afraid," debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May.  The song was only the 16th in the 52-year history of the Hot 100 to debut at the top spot, and the first rap song to do so in 13 years.  The second single from the album, "Love The Way You Lie" (featuring Rihanna), is already showing tremendous growth at radio, and debuts at #1 on the Singles chart this week, with sales of 337,000.

"It's been 12 years since Eminem signed to Aftermath and Interscope," remarked Jimmy Iovine, Chairman, Interscope Geffen A&M Records. "This is a real watershed moment in his career.  In my opinion, with this album Eminem's impact on popular culture, and as a lyricist and writer, puts him on course to be mentioned in the same sentence as Dylan, Springsteen, and Bono."

Recovery is being hailed as a tour de force for the rapper, receiving a four-star review in the current issue of Rolling Stone, and being described as "his fiercest and most focused work in a long time ... a strong return to the form that made him a star in the first place." (USA Today, 6/21/10)

Eminem performed "Not Afraid" on the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater for an appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman" that aired Friday night, as well as at Sunday night's "2010 BET Awards."  He heads to Europe next week for headlining slots at Switzerland's Freuenfeld festival (July 9),  T In The Park in Scotland (July 10), and wraps up in Ireland at Oxegen (July 11).  Eminem and Jay-Z also will perform co-headlining dates at Comerica Park in Detroit (September 2 and 3) and New York's Yankee Stadium (September 13 and 14).  Tickets for the four shows went on sale late last week and quickly sold out.  SOURCE Interscope Records; Aftermath

"Soldier Of Love" which Sade co-produced with Mike Pela, was written by Sade along with longtime collaborators Andrew Hale, Stuart Matthewman and Paul Spencer Denman. The track, featuring a pulsating and anthemic drum beat along with haunting vocals that Sade is known for, is set to hit airwaves December 8(th) and will kick off the countdown for SOLDIER OF LOVE. Recorded in England and set for release WORLDWIDE on February 8(th), SOLDIER OF LOVE marks Sade's first studio album since the multi-platinum release of Lovers Rock in 2000.

The first single "Soldier Of Love" will premiere on Tuesday, December 8(th) at 7am EST on www.sade.com.

Known for their one of a kind timeless sound, Sade has enjoyed phenomenal success both internationally and stateside throughout the span of their twenty-five year career. ABBA, one of the most popular pop music groups in history, has released only two concert films--until now. Nearly two hours in length, In Japan (Polar/Polydor/UMe), to be released November 3, 2009, joins ABBA In Concert and ABBA - The Movie as the only DVD venues for fans to experience the performance phenomenon of ABBAmania.

abbacover.jpg

The DVD's centerpiece is a 54-minute show, "ABBA In Japan," taped for Japanese television in 1978. Agnetha Faltskog, Benny Andersson, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Ani-Frid Lyngstad perform 14 songs plus a bonus track of the original tape mix of "If It Wasn't For The Nights." Among the other songs are such global hits as "Take A Chance On Me," "Money, Money, Money," "SOS," "Dancing Queen," "Waterloo," "Fernando," "Knowing Me, Knowing You," "The Name Of The Game" and "Thank You For The Music."

Extras on In Japan include two exclusive behind-the-scenes documentaries with TV performances and interviews with press and radio during ABBA's 10-day visits to Japan in 1978 (24 minutes) and 1980 (37 minutes).

ABBA's recent success has been nothing short of astounding given that the group disbanded in the early '80s. ABBA has reportedly sold more than 400 million records to date around the world. Fueled partly by the enormous success of the ABBA-centric Mamma Mia! on stage and screen, sales continue to soar for releases such as 1992's ABBA Gold - Greatest Hits, six-times U.S. gold and with more than 26 million copies sold worldwide. In late 2008, the nine-disc box set ABBA - The Albums, containing all eight original studio albums plus a bonus disc of B-sides, rarities and other hits, was issued.

But the group's touring tenure was relatively short. ABBA - The Movie, directed by the award-winning Lasse Hallstrom, documented a frenetic two-week concert tour of Australia in 1977 and was released in theaters later that year. In 2006, ABBA - The Movie made its DVD debut and in 2008 premiered in its Blu-ray version. The other previously released concert film, ABBA In Concert, captured the foursome on its 1979 swing across North America and Europe, only ABBA's second major tour, and was released on DVD in 2004.

Now with In Japan, fans can once again enjoy the rarity of ABBA on stage at the height of ABBAmania.

Lady Gaga announced today that she will release The Fame Monster, a re-package of her 4 million-selling album The Fame. The album will include the entire breakthrough album The Fame, along with eight entirely new songs. The Fame Monster (Streamline/KonLive/Cherrytree/Interscope Records), deals with the seamier side of fame, as experienced by Gaga over the course of her last history-making year. The new version will be released on November 24, 2009.

Says Lady Gaga, "On my re-release The Fame Monster, I wrote about everything I didn't write on The Fame. While traveling the world for two years, I've encountered several monsters, each represented by a different song on the new record: my 'Fear of Sex Monster,' my 'Fear of Alcohol Monster,' my 'Fear of Love Monster,' my 'Fear of Death Monster,' my 'Fear of Loneliness Monster,' etc."

"I spent a lot of nights in Eastern Europe, and this album is a pop experimentation with industrial/Goth beats, 90's dance melodies, an obsession with the lyrical genius of 80's melancholic pop, and the runway. I wrote while watching muted fashion shows and I am compelled to say my music was scored for them. I also composed a ballad for the album, 'Speechless,' a song for my father, and it's my favorite work of all. I wrote every piece on the road - no songs about money, no songs about fame. I wrote it for my fans, so I wrote everything in between."

The first club-banging single, the RedOne-produced "Bad Romance," will be released in early November. Other collaborators on the new tracks include Teddy Riley, Rodney Jerkins, Ron Fair and Fernando Garibay.

Lady Gaga is also in the process of planning her next tour after her co-headlining tour with Kanye West was canceled last week.

2009 has been quite a year for Morrissey. He's toured relentlessly, performing to sold-out audiences around the world. His 9th studio album, Years Of Refusal, saw Morrissey tie his highest US chart debut on the Billboard 200, and he's overseen upgraded and remastered versions of his '90s works Southpaw Grammar and Maladjusted. Crowning what is undoubtedly his most productive year since his solo career began in 1988, SWORDS compiles 18 select songs released as b-sides of his 13 hit singles from his last four albums.

morrissey.jpg

As an artist who has always ensured his b-sides are of as outstanding quality as his singles and album tracks, SWORDS features some of Morrissey's finest material. 12 songs are collaborations with guitarist Alain Whyte, the rest co-written with guitarists Boz Boorer and Jesse Tobias, and former keyboardist Michael Farrell. In keeping with the three remarkable studio albums covered in this period -- 2004's You Are The Quarry, 2006's Ringleader Of The Tormentors and Years Of Refusal -- the music is powerful and adventurous. The richness and expression of Morrissey's voice has never been greater. With unmatchable style, wit and insight, truths beneath the surface are laid bare. There are moments of personal reflection: "Munich Air Disaster 1958," for example, is a heartrending lament for the Manchester United players who died in the infamous plane crash, and for those who were left behind. The live cover version of David Bowie's 1973 song "Drive-In Saturday" reveals a little more of Morrissey's own teenage self, with its lyrics of amorous confusion modified to rhapsodize over The New York Dolls rather than the Rolling Stones. Chrissie Hynde makes a rare appearance, singing backing vocals on "Shame Is The Name."

The album was compiled by Morrissey who is surely in the rudest of creative health. They're subtly assembled and sequenced -- the feeling of approaching extinction in the beautiful "The Never-Played Symphonies" followed by a promise of a reunion in the afterlife on "Sweetie-Pie." As Morrissey said of the Tour Of Refusal in March, "all of our answers will be in our songs."

Initial quantities of SWORDS will come with a bonus disc featuring eight superb live performances recorded in Warsaw in July this year. This will include songs from Morrissey's last two albums and 1994's Vauxhall And I, plus The Smiths' "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby," first heard on the group's 1986 b-side collection The World Won't Listen. In October and November, Morrissey and his band will also tour the UK and Europe, with new American dates scheduled for later in the year.

SWORDS will be released in the UK on October 26th and November 3rd in the US.

                           SWORDS Tracklist:
                     Good Looking Man About Town
Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice

Miley Cyrus' new single, "Party In The USA" debuts at # 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 today, selling over 225,000 units, and following 3 consecutive weeks of having the # 1 most added song at Top 40 Radio. Miley's # 2 debut ties for the highest debut of 2009 alongside Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling." Miley's "Party In The USA" is the highest debut by a female solo artist since Carrie Underwood's "Inside Your Heaven" (in July of 2005.) This also marks Miley's highest single-week download total, and is the fastest breaking single in Hollywood Records' history. "Party In The USA" was produced and co-written by Dr. Luke.

MileyC.jpg

In addition to the # 2 Hot 100 debut, Miley has reason to celebrate several # 1 debuts, including the # 1 single on iTunes, and # 1 on Billboard's Digital Song Chart and Hot Digital Track Chart. She is scheduled to perform "Party In The USA" on The Today Show August 28, days in front of the release of her new EP Time of Our Lives on August 31. "Party In The USA" is available for purchase at wal-mart.com and iTunes.com.

All four of Miley's prior albums have reached # 1; the first Hannah Montana soundtrack from her hit Disney Channel TV show of the same name, the two-disc set Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus, the Miley Cyrus Breakout CD and the Walt Disney Pictures soundtrack for Hannah Montana The Movie. Miley is the youngest recording artists to claim four # 1 albums on the Billboard Top 200 in less than three years.

"Party In The USA" is the follow up to Miley's monster hit "The Climb" which has held the # 1 spot at Mainstream AC for a record breaking seven weeks, went to # 5 on the Top 40 airplay chart, and reached # 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Miley recently wrapped filming the Nicolas Sparks drama "The Last Song" and will embark on a 55-city North American tour beginning in September. Next year, Miley will begin production of season 4 of the Disney Channel series "Hannah Montana."

One month ago, a previously unreleased special mix of the Jackson 5 hit "I'll Be There" was made available on iTunes. The track was issued as a prelude to Michael Jackson: The Stripped Mixes (Motown/UMe), an album of new mixes showcasing a vocal talent that was superlative even at a young age and one that signaled the superstar he would become. Released digitally today, July 7, and on CD on July 21, Michael Jackson: The Stripped Mixes shines a bright, fresh light on his early career as both a solo artist and with his brothers in the Jackson 5.

Utilizing the original Motown session tapes, the mixes on Michael Jackson: The Stripped Mixes strip away certain instruments and studio frills to instead focus on the essence of the spectacular recordings--Michael's vocals and the harmonies provided by his brothers. The new approach enhances those sparkling vocals, makes them the star rather than the pop production, and inevitably leads to an almost acoustic tone to the recordings. The result is a unique rediscovery of each of these classic songs.

The recordings on Michael Jackson: The Stripped Mixes are proof that his music and performances will live forever.

The tracks on Michael Jackson: The Stripped Mixes are:

  1. I'll Be There
  2. Ben
  3. Who's Loving You
  4. Ain't No Sunshine
  5. I Want You Back
  6. ABC
  7. We've Got A Good Thing Going

Daughtry will embark upon a short club tour this August, starting just weeks after the release of LEAVE THIS TOWN (19 Recordings/RCA Music Group), the follow-up to the band's Grammy-nominated and quintuple-platinum debut.

Daughtry_albumcov.jpg

Singer Chris Daughtry, bassist Josh Paul, drummer Joey Barnes, and guitarists Brian Craddock and Josh Steely will use the intimate shows to perform many of the songs from the new album on stage for the first time. The 13-date tour will kick off August 2 in Orlando, FL and end August 22 in Las Vegas, NV. Tickets go on sale July 11. Daughtry will offer limited VIP packages as a pre-sale July 8th - 10th. Additionally, the band will also give a free ticket to the first 50 fans in each market who pre-order LEAVE THIS TOWN from www.DaughtryOfficial.com.

"This club tour is a thank you to our loyal fans. Its a great way for them to see us up close and, more importantly, at a cheap price," says singer Chris Daughtry.

More than a month before its official release, LEAVE THIS TOWN is already generating considerable buzz for its musical range.

Rolling Stone: "The surprisingly diverse results include everything from the clubby 'Supernatural' to the fiddle-driven Vince Gill duet 'Tennessee Line.'" ... "'Call Your Name' [is] an anthem reminiscent of 'November Rain,' complete with a stirring key change, falsetto vocal runs and an explosive Slash-style guitar climax."

Billboard: "And while Daughtry's voice and rock riffs still play center stage to most of the album's tracks, several songs take some creative chances. Daughtry wrote 'You Don't Belong' on his own; it's a hard-driving song that wouldn't sound out of place on an Alice in Chains album."

Daughtry will begin an extensive North American tour this fall.
